Prior to our first session, verify that your insurance plan will cover our visit by contacting them directly at the number listed on the back of your insurance card. Make sure to ask about your deductible, your copayment and if pre-authorization is needed.

Even if your insurance is not listed, most insurance companies will pay for “out of network” providers. To find out if you can access this benefit, call your insurance company and ask them if they have an out-of-network provision.  Make sure to ask about your deductible and your copayment. If you have a deductible, it means you will pay out-of-pocket before your insurance starts covering.

Employee Assistance Programs

Most companies with more than 40 employees offer this benefit.  It is free and a great way to get started with therapy.  I am on the panel of several major EAP programs (Cascade Centers, Horizon Health, Wellness 2000, United Healthcare and Aetna).  Although EAPs are limited in sessions, generally three to six sessions, this is often a great way to get started in therapy with no copay.  Generally, you can start with your EAP benefit and then transition over to your insurance plan once your EAP benefits have been exhausted.  However, you should check with your insurance company first to make sure they will cover continued visits once your EAP plan has been used.
